have you tried essie nail polish? i'm not one to paint my nails because they usually look like a chipped disaster in two days, but i could not resist picking up some of these gorgeous colors last night. and check out this cool idea. it looks so beachy to me.

a few moments from our time at christopher's folks house in the country. our vacation time was much enjoyed and very relaxing, filled with giggles and newness for harper. we all stretched our legs and ran and enjoyed the openness of country living.
all that a vacation should be. i managed to leave the camera in the car while we were at my parents house. i think there is something to be said for being at home and feeling completely, well, at home.
we are getting back into the routine today. it is going to be a busy few months for our family with christopher working nonstop. he might get four days off from now till january. aahhh. so it goes. i am going to stay busy making gifts and food and decorating and soaking up every moment that we are all together.

a few of our favorite books. harper loves eric carle books and all of his beautiful collaged animals. when i was an art teacher i did an eric carle unit and was reading the book "brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?" to kindergartners and one of the little boys would shout the words after i read them. so every time we read that book i think of quintin shouting with all of his might, "BROWN BEAR, BROWN BEAR, WHAT DO YOUUUU SEE?"!!
harper is finally getting into coloring. i'm so excited, because, well, i used to teach art and love everything involving color and mess and creativity.
we've been crazy busy this week and i haven't picked up the camera since last friday. tomorrow we are hosting a party for christopher's work for *30* people!!! i'm a little terrified, but i'm sure it will be fine. i'm going to be cooking like a maniac tomorrow.
on saturday we are going on a "vacation"! christopher has a week off and we are going to texas and oklahoma in a whirlwind trip to see all of our peeps. it's not exactly the relaxing vacation you would hope for, but we are all badly missing our families and will not be able to travel during the holidays since he will be working. i'm gathering up fun things for harper to do on a 10+ hour drive. i'll be knitting baby gifts. what do you do with your kids in the car?

because it is fall here and we are spending more of our day inside than out, we have been
drinking coffee by the fire
dancing in the evenings
reading our favorite books
sewing a few stitches
snuggling with baby
playing music
baking.
we each have our favorite thing to listen to. harper picks yo gabba gabba dance music, christopher enjoys mark kozelek and i want to hear garrison keillor's news from lake wobegon. this is my favorite. have a listen tonight before you go to bed. and tell me what you think.

after a few crummy days, i want only to look at the bright and colorful and cheery things around our home.
1. quilted pillow that i made last week when the snow came down.
2. vintage clutch that i carried to this on saturday. it was amazing. something on my bucket list.
3. tea towels made by Mattie (whom our daughter, Harper Mattie, was named after) that i came across today while organizing the linens.
